Video Guide

This guide will work with almost any laptop and all this guide is tested on Dell Inspiron i5559. You can duel boot windows and hackintosh, we'll guide you everything step by step below. This is not just installing hackintosh, but also this guide covers almost making a perfect hackintosh. So, follow this guide very carefully step by step.

  • Inspiron 3153/3158/3169/3459/3559/5368/5568/5457/5557/5459/5559/5759/7353/7359/7368/7559/7568/7569/7778
  • Vostro 3459/3559/5459
  • Alienware 13 R2 / 15 R2 / 17 R3

Don't know your laptop model ? If you're using windows operating system you can simply find your model by pressing simultaneously Win + R Key from your keyboard and type dxdiag and Hit Enter, then you can find your laptop model , graphics and other species there.

  • Internet Connection
  • 8 GB or higher USB drive
  • Basic knowlege of computer

  • Make sure you backup necessary files of your harddrive.
  • Entire harddisk will be erased.
  • Wifi on hackintosh may not work. See compatible wifi cards
  • If you've an external graphics card that might not work. we'll disable this while installing, and enable if supported once boot is completed.

Don't know which motherboard, which graphics your system is using?? It is very important to know your system hardware firsto to make hackintosh workable on your system. You can simply download CPU-Z from resources and install it. Once you've installed it note the following things from following picture and fill your profile signature with those information in this site. For more information on signature see Just Three Things To Get Started.

Step 1 : Make USB Bootable
Download Sierra Image (Recommended and use Win32DiskImager (Also you can see demo in video)) or Download the high sierra image (tested and still no success, need to use Transmac for this. If you have access to mac you can use this one) from this link and once download is complete, use Win32DiskImager or Transmac to make a USB bootable. You can watch video on my YouTube Channel if are new on it.

Step 2: Replace Config.plist
The config.plist is the main file where almost all the settings for your hackintosh are stored. Remeber, config.plist are vary from laptop to laptop, It depends on what hardware you use. Confused?? Not to worry, Rehabman has a list of config.plist that was already configured for you. You can download it and rename to config.plist the one that matches the name for IGPU. Once you have renamed open the EFI partition of USB and replace it inside Clover Folder.
If you don't see or can't access EFI folderlook at this thread.

Step 3: Kext to Clover/Other/
What does Kext term mean in Mac OS? In simple windows language, Kexts are driver for Mac OS, we put kexts to EFI/Clover/Other/ so that the Mac OS reads on boot time and recognize your hardware. You know that without driver a hardware is useless if it can't recognize, so we'll use a basic kexts that require to boot a hackintosh and once boot is complete you can make a use of Ethernet.

Step 4: Additional Step (Disabling Discrete Graphics 10.13 or higher)
If you have a Discrete Graphics i.e. is DGPU like AMD or Nvidia graphics card on your laptop then you need to disable it from the BIOS else you need to completely ignore this step. Not all laptop BIOS will have this feature, although In my system too I don't have an BIOS system to disable it. So, the best hack in this kind of situation is disabling graphics via a patch called SSDT-DiscreteSpoof.aml, Download it and place it inside [/ICODE]/EFI/Clover/ACPI/Patched/[/ICODE]
Note : This is only the temporary solution that we applied for booting the hackintosh, we'll take closely look at Step 4.

Step 5 : Configure Your BIOS
Reboot your laptop, we are now ready to install high sierra, Goto BIOS by pressing F2 when Dell Logo appears, And setup things as mentioned below:
Press F12 at the boot screen to get into the boot menu and select BIOS Setup from the list.
  • First click on "Restore Settings" button below to set the Default Settings in the BIOS.
  • Select Boot Mode to UEFI (If set to Legacy Boot Mode)
  • Select Boot Order USB to 1 (First)
  • Disable VT for Direct I/O under Virtualization Support in the BIOS menu.
  • Make sure SATA Operation under System Configuration is set to AHCI.
  • Click on Apply and save the settings.
  • Computer will boot again.
Step 6 : Booting through USB
Now some laptops boot automatically to the hackintosh installer, if your laptop boot directly to installer then you may skip this step. For those who are getting "No boot found" or "Booting through windows " then press CTRL + ALT + DEL then your laptop will boot, again when Dell logo appears you need to continuously press F12 which means Quick boot menu, from the menu you can find your USB under UEFI Section. Select and it will redirect through Clover home.

Step 7 : Clover temporary boot options
Once you're at Clover, you can tweak settings as per your needs, but configuring clover setting on boot will only be saved for one session, next time when you boot, you need to re-tweak. If you don't know anything on hackintosh then first you should try the default boot option named "Install High Sierra from USB", now when you first boot if you get frequent reboot with message "System uptime in nano second " then process next step other wise skip step 5:

Step 8 : System uptime in nanosecond
"System uptime in nanosecond" means that your hackintosh doesn't recognize your graphics card. so, we need to tweak this thing from clover boot screen, by setting fake id. To do this, goto options (Gear icon) > GUI Tuning > Graphics Options > Intel Graphincs > Fake ID to 0x1 or 0x12345678 then press ENTER then ESC to come to clover home and boot "Install High Sierra from USB".

Step 9 : Other Problems
You may also get several other problems or stuck at some point, your problem might be already solved here please see Common kernel boot errors and it's solution. Except this you'll be taken to the GUI installer.

Step 10 : Installation
(Warning : Doing this step will loose all your data)
Once you're on GUI Screen with welcome message, Click Agree terms and conditions, From the Menu-bar click on Utility > Disk Utility and select your Entire Hardisk partition and Click delete and create a new partition and select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) other leave as is. Once you've got successfully created message, exi8t the disk utility, select the new partition you've just created and click Begin Installation.

Step 11 : Sign In to ICloud
After you finish installation you'll take to a setup page which require an apple account to access icloud, appstore, etc. no matter if you don't have an apple account you can skip the steps.

Step 12 : Once you're in desktop
Congratulations !! You've just installed a hackintosh on your system. Don't get so happy :), still we need to do lot more stuff like installing Clover, Graphics , Audio, Wifi & Bluetooth, touchpad, brightness, sleep & wake, etc.

Step 13 : Install Clover to HDD
We're booting from USB drive, now if you try to boot your system without usb, you won't be able to boot your hackintosh because the clover is currently on your USB drive. So To be able to boot your hackintosh without USB then you'll have to install clover in you HDD too. It's pretty simple Follow this guide.

Step 14 : Install Kexts to HDD
After you've successfully install clover maybe the kexts are still in the /EFI/Clover/Kexts/Other/ or you have moved to this point. I have seen many people asking for help later on for the patch like Audio, Graphics, Brightness, etc. but after having a lot of conversation with them, I found that they are missing a simple step that is moving Kexts to S/L/E/ or L/E/, without moving kexts to any of this location your hackintosh will not work perfectly. For example for Audio patch AppleALC.kext need to be in /S/L/E or L/E and needs to rebuild Kernel Cache to make audio work.I have explained about fixing audio and moving kext in this guide.

Step 15 : Configure Audio
Once you do above step and reboot your laptop audio should be working fine, If your laptop is still missing audio then you need to try different Layout-Id in your config. The one alternate solution is you can use VoodooHDA.kext, This requires removing AppleHDA.kext and AppleALC from S/L/E/. If that doesn't help then you can ask us for the help.

Step 16 : Configuring IGPU Graphics
From the MAC Desktop Click on Apple logo at Top left corner and select About Mac and read the value of Graphics Memory. Is that 4 mb , 5mb or what? It should be more than 1000 MB , if not then your graphics is not installed and hence you'll feel laggy, very slow processing and glitch screen interface. Now again this varies from system to system so according to your Intel Graphics Family you should follow one right guide from here

Step 17 : Chaning SMBIOS
Okay, You have installed a Mac on your system but how it behaves on performing, updating and upgrading? Yes. Every Mac OS is customized and while performing, updating and upgrading it may crash and get Kernel Panic due to unknown hardware that OS can't recognize. So, your system need to define your installed version of OS that what system is actually running and serve as per this. so defining system again inside mac is called chaning SMBIOS. Hence, this can improve performance, stability and less kernel panic on upgrading. See here.

Step 18 : Brightness Fix && Keys
The one great issue when installing hackintosh is brightness keys and brightness sliders missing into System Preferences. Brightness is one of the most notable and must needed thing on hackintosh, you may ignore for a days but can't ignore more that a week. People often install Brightness slider App from the Apple App Store, which will work out of the box but this is not the solution because instead of decreasing brightness from the system it only tweaks the color so that you feels good for the eyes. This will drains your battery quicker and is not recommended. Thanks for @ALiveVam for the Brightness patch in this forum, this guide will work for any Intel based system, please be sure to read it. Also read Configuring Brightness Keys.

Step 19 : Disable Discrete Graphics
If you do not have discrete graphics then you should skip this step. And before following this guide you should check whether your DGPU is supported in hackintosh or not? If it's supported then you should install it through the help of google (Currently right now). If unsupported then you must follow this guide. Check Supported 'DGPU' Graphics List.

As we have said earlier that in Step 4 that was only the temporary solution. That wan't a solution, that we did is only to successfully boot the hackintosh into system. The main two disadvantages of skipping
this step is your system eats lots of battery and performance will be very poor. And the another issue will be that you can put your hackitnosh into sleep or also if you can you can't wake. So, what we'll do now is patch the DSDT so that it completely disables 'DGPU' on startup. We'll also do a patch on Sleep and Wake like Enabling DGPU on sleep and again disabling on wake, this process cycle we'll patch to our DSDT. The guide is little long but is very recommended. See here.

Step 20 : Discover problems deeper
The above mentioned steps are the basic fix for hackintosh, If you've followed the guide one after another correctly then at this time your hackintosh is working perfectly fine but later on you may experience some break point that you notice or still need to fix, at that time you may process with that fixing through DSDT patches or any. Now you've learnt how to patch DSDT and guide us how you fix some other common issue that hackintosher may experience.
The problems you face might have already experience and may have been solved, explore more detail in hackintosh forum.

Step 21 : Updates && Upgrades
I've talked about this in detail about updates and upgrades in this community. Updates and Upgrades are always good and it's always safe to do and is very recommended for smoothness but be sure you update clover, kexts and config.plist while taking this action. We'd like to hear form you.

Conclusion : This is a lot bigger guide right? This guide doesn't mean that you must follow this to the end. It's best when you want to make your hackintosh perfectly like a real mac. If you got any confusion in any step or anything please feel free to ask below. If your questions are big for your laptop please open a separate thread and link to this forum. Thank You
