Introduction
Kodi is a wildly popular free media center program which many cord cutters consider the best of its kind. Kodi used to be known as XBMC, and even though it has a new name, it is still the same exceptional media center at its core.

History
Kodi was first released in 2004 as the Xbox Media Center, a media player for Xbox. The software was made for people who wanted to modify their Xbox to allow it to add additional programs. The name Xbox Media Center was quickly shortened to XBMC by users, and the abbreviated name stuck.

USE VPN
Kodi has attracted negative attention due to the availability of third-party plug-ins for the software that facilitate unauthorized access to copyrighted media content, as well as "fully loaded" digital media players that are pre-loaded with such add-ons; the XBMC Foundation has not endorsed any of these uses, and has taken steps to disassociate the Kodi project from these illegal products, including threatening legal action against those using its trademarks to promote them.

Installation
Kodi is available for different platform like Windows, Linux, Mac OS, Android, Raspberry PI, iOS and others as well. but In this guide I won't go detail on Installing Kodi on all the platform, if you need to install on different platform other than the Android and Raspberry Pi, please look at official documentation on installation.
Now, we'll go step by step guide on installing kodi on :

[*] Installing Kodi on Android
There's two type of installation for android, the one is from the google play which act as an application and the other act as an entire operating system. If you're installing kodi on android phone then you need to use the Kodi application from the Google play store. And if you use Android devices for your TV setup box or Raspberry Pi with Android OS installed then you need to go for ARM Build Image.

[*] Installing Kodi on Windows
The best and easy way of installing Kodi is from the windows App Store. Open Windows App Store and search keyword "Kodi" and install it. Once done, click on start menu type kodi and there you go..
If you've using Windows 7 or prior version then you can use the Kodi installer which you can download it here.

[*] Installing Kodi on Linux System.
Ubuntu
Open Terminal then copy and paste the following lines of command one after another into Terminal:
Bash:
sudo apt-get install software-properties-common
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install kodi
Warning : Some Newer Ubuntu version include Kodi built by Ubuntu themselves. If you have installed Ubuntu Kodi, please remove the packages kodi kodi-bin kodi-data before trying to install team-xbmc PPA packages.
Command to remove package :
Bash:
sudo apt purge kodi kodi-bin kodi-data
Debian
In Debian 9 (Strech), Kodi is available in the default "main" Debian repository and if you're still using Debian 8 (Jessie) version then you must add Debian back-port repository. To do this add the following line of code into /etc/apt/sources.list
Bash:
# kodi repos
# starting with debian jessie, debian provides kodi via its backports repository
# remember: those packages are not supported by team kodi
deb http://http.debian.net/debian jessie-backports main
For installing kodi on Debian 9 and Debian 8 then open up a Terminal and paste the following line of code one after another.
Don't know which version you're using ??
lsb_release -da
Bash:
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Debian
Description: Debian GNU/Linux 9.0 (stretch)
Release: 9.0
Codename: stretch

[*] Installing into Mac OS X
Kodi is not available in App Store till now the only way is you need to download and install Kodi on Mac OS X by installer for now. When using the installer, mac will block the installation because of unidentified developer for security reasons. You can install this block software from System Preferences > Security & Privacy > click open Anyway button. Once, the installation is complete you can find the Kodi application into Applications folder.

[*] Raspberry PI
Two Kodi distributions are included in easy operating system installer NOOBS: LibreELEC and OSMC. But in this guide we'll install kodi by straight forward with OSMC installer. OSMC installer is Lightweight, Clean and Beautiful Skin design suited for TV. We'll talk about OSMC in lot detail in another guide, now let's head over installing Kodi by using OSMC distribution. OSMC tool is available into Mac, Windows and Linux distribution. You can download one with download page for the official OSMC site. once you've completed the download insert the Removable drive like Pendrive or SD card (Depends upon what you use for your raspberry Pi). Format the Removable drive with Fat32 partition.

Once you have finished download OSMC installer, open it the select the language, computer, SSH name, etc. you need, etc. this will take time to setup setup for about 5 to 10 minutes depending on you system. OSMC will give the "Congratualation " success message when finished. Now, Safely eject the removeable drive and insert it into raspberry PI.

See the Kodi setting up guide for raspberry PI.
